Shiva on the spine of the Apasmára-Purusha
Four-armed Shiva has his left foot on the spine of the Apasmára-Purusha while extending his right leg to touch his ear. In his upper right hand he carries the damaru (hourglass shaped drum), in his upper left is the mriga (gazelle) and in his lower left he carries another damaru, while his lower right is in abhaya mudra. A tiger skin is wound around his loins, a kavacha (armor) covers his chest and an angavastra is draped over his elbows on both sides. The red-complexioned Apasmara purusha carries a sword and buckler.
